Price Increase Information
We've all become accustomed to increasing prices for groceries, gas and nearly all other expenses. The inflationary environment that started during the pandemic and continued through 2024 was truly historic. In fact, we warned about increasing prices months/years before this inflation took effect in the market (see our Facebook posts from May 4th, 2021 and October 21, 2021). Despite all of that, our long-time customers will know that we maintained our original prices through this time of rising prices.
Unfortunately, we weren't immune from the rising costs in the coffee industry. Our supplier has passed on SIX price increase since we launched Commitment Coffee in May 2020, driven by their increases in the cost of green coffee beans (detailed in the picture above), packaging, flavoring syrups, shipping/logistics and wages/benefits.
So, how did we avoid passing those SIX price increases through to our customers? We got really scrappy...we bought in bulk...we cut accounting software expenses. Anything we could do to avoid passing our increased costs to our customers. Unfortunately, we've reached the end of options and we have to announce our first-ever price increase.
It is going to be a significant increase.
- In most cases a couple $s/bag on the 12 oz. size, a few $s/bag on the 2 lb. size and $5-$10 or more on the 5 lb. size.
- Our new prices will put us back in a similar comparative spot with the online coffee brands we consider to be our competition as we were when we started Commitment Coffee.
There are two bright spots.
- We are able to increase our 'bulk buying' discount on the 2 lb. bag size from at least a 10% $/oz. discount (vs. the 12 oz. bags) to at least a 15% $/oz. discount!
- Our 5 lb. bags maintain a 20+% $/oz. discount (vs. the 12 oz. bag size).
- We are able to maintain the 12 oz. price on a couple of our Origins varieties...and even (slightly) lowered the cost of the 2 lb. bags in those varieties.
Finally, we'll also be making a slight adjustment in the shipping thresholds. See the 'Shipping and Local Delivery' tab on our website for additional details. The shipping costs won't change, just the thresholds. The most notable change is that the FREE shipping tier will now be for purchases over $65.
